Cotswold schools under starters orders

THE Cirencester and District girls’ team has been named as the cross county champions, with six of the team finishing in the top 26.

The Cirencester schoolgirls narrowly beat the Cheltenham team, who in previous years has dominated the event.

Runners were chosen to represent their district at three cross country events held at Deer Park, Kingshill and Farmor’s secondary schools, where more than 20 local schools battled it out under starters orders.

Other districts competing in the inter-schools cross country championships final were Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Forest of Dean, Stroud, North Cotswold and Wotton/Dursley.

The boys’ team failed this year to finish in the top three districts.

Richard Simpson, partnership development manager for organiser Cotswold School Sports Partnership said the girls’ success was "brilliant". He continued: "I believe that having three races in the district series and running in yr 3, 4, 5 and 6 has really paid off for these girls."

* Cirencester and District winning girls’ team was made up of Zoe Wassell (St Mary’s), Emma Jane and Eleanor Middleton (Fairford), Sasha Green and Eleanor Clarke (Rodmarton), Emily Voaden (Meysey Hampton), Alice Moss (Powell’s), Alice Rostant and Hannah Hall (Hatherop), Georgia Wray (St Lawrence), Toni Sue Butt (Leighterton), and Demi Olutunmogun (Ashton Keynes).
