Next step advice for Sir William Romney's students

THE Royal Agricultural College in Cirencester opened its doors to students from local secondary schools with a roadshow offering higher education advice.

Pupils from Sir William Romney’s school joined other secondary schools at the Aimhigher roadshow, a national Government-funded campaign touring England.

The campaign is designed to reach out to young people who have little or no family experience of higher education and used plasma screens and laptops to get the message across as well as presentations by current university students.

Year 9 Sir William Romney’s student Ashis Rai said: "The activities were fun, challenging and informative. They gave us clear information on the pathways to further education."

Rose Gaiger, Aimhigher coordinator at SWR, said: "The roadshow trailer was very informal with the group sitting around on beanbags and watching an interactive presentation which included a video showing the perspective from three students.

"We would like to extend our thanks to The Royal Agricultural College for hosting this event and for extending such a warm welcome to us."

Higher Education Minister David Lammy said: "The Aimhigher roadshows bring higher education to students’ front doors, showing them the opportunities available and how best to make use of them. This is an important foundation on which to build and is vital in supporting those who need it most."

This year’s tour is expected to reach more than 700 young people nationwide every day during term time and will continue to expand and over the next two years.
