FASHION-forward sixth form students at The Cotswold School showcased their talent for design at the school’s annual charity Fashion Show, raising £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event at the Bourton-on-the Water school was made even more special by the presence of fashion guru George Davies (of Next, Per Una and Asda fame) who sat on the judging panel alongside his head designer/buyer Charlotte Edgworth and teachers Helen Kempson, who founded textiles at the school 25 years ago, and Ami Minchin.

The team of sixth formers were led by Sophie Martin and supported by textiles teacher Julie Franklin.

Miss Franklin said: “Students have been working since July on their collections. They have been supported by Year 13 mentors but mostly worked independently. I am extremely proud of all their efforts and everyone who made the event so spectacular.”

The evening was compared by the school’s own Ant and Dec, Stephen Howard and Charlie Meyrick, and began with a performance from some of the school’s dancers before the talented school models had a chance to showcase the students’ collections.

Judges awarded Sophie M Taylor, Emily-Jane Bayliss and Sophie Collett with the ultimate accolade of the George Davies Prize for their jointly designed Mexican-inspired ‘Day of the Dead’ collection. The girls each received sewing machines and work experience with George Davies’ clothing company.

The prize for Best Design Drawings and Concept went to Caitlin Yates for her edgy ‘Happily Ever After’ collection and the award for best single gown went to Year 10′s Lydia Clarke for her ‘lily’ inspired gown with hand dyed petal skirt modelled by Chloe Wilkinson.

The evening’s prize for top model went to Charlotte Crouch for a stunning catwalk performance.

Mr Davies was impressed by students’ designs. He said: “Seeing this level of talent in these young people makes me think I’m paying my designers too much.”
