A LOCAL10-year-old rugby fan from Stratton School in Cirencester had an experience to treasure when he was chosen as team mascot for Gloucester Rugby.

Keen and talented sportsman Jonny Floyd was chosen by his school to receive the mascot package at Kingsholm for the game against Northampton Saints.

Year 6 Jonny has a passion for rugby and has spent many hours watching Gloucester Rugby with his two brothers at Kingsholm.

As well as helping his school to tag rugby victory in a local tournament last year, he plays for Cirencester Rugby Club. He was in the under-10’s squad who were last season’s Dursley cup winners and county cup runners-up.

As part of the package Jonny and his whole family enjoyed a day out at Kingsholm. Jonny was given a tour of the grounds and ran through the tunnel with the players. He was also given a Gloucester Rugby kit to keep.

Mum Philippa said: “It is one of the best days we have had as a family for such a long time. It was a wonderful experience for the whole family.”

Teacher at Stratton School Shirley Bond said: “I was thrilled that Jonny was able to take this opportunity and one he will never forget. He was a worthy candidate.”
