BIRDLIP Primary school is top of the class in science teaching according to Ofsted’s latest subject rating.
The school small rural school has had its science teaching graded as ‘outstanding’ overall.
The inspection was carried out by Brian Cartwright, Her Majesty’s chief inspector for science in England. He found that “pupils have exceptionally well-developed skills of scientific enquiry” and that they “attain high academic standards of science subject knowledge.”
The quality of science teaching was rated as ‘outstanding’ as was the science curriculum. Leadership and management of science was also judged to be ‘outstanding’.
Sandra Wride, Birdlip headteacher said: “We are all delighted with the judgements made about science at Birdlip Primary School. Children have naturally enquiring minds and we strongly believe that they should have as many opportunities as possible to gain scientific understanding through practical investigation.
“We always try to make science fun and develop the ability of the children to ask really searching questions about why things are as they are.”
