ADVENTUROUS students from Coln House School in Fairford have pushed themselves to new heights to complete a 10-mile trek to the summit of Pen Y Fan, in Brecon, Wales.

Students George Mahon, Jessie Margrett, Jack Edgell, Lorna McLeod and John Weeks were accompanied by the school deputy head Richard Lewis and nine mentors from the school.

The 10-mile walk, arranged for students from the school supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioral difficulties, was made all the more difficult because of bad weather conditions.

The night before the expedition pupils and staff had a presentation by Dr Ian Davis, who has experience of arctic challenges and came up with the concept for Top Gear to drive a Toyota across the polar landscape.

The trek follows on from pupil Joe Bradley's intrepid 100km walk across the Rift Valley in Tanzania earlier in the year, again accompanied by deputy head Richard Lewis, and is seen as Coln House School as a positive way ahead for education.

Mr Lewis said: "We believe in this way forward at Coln House School to build resilience and relationships. Our pupils are amazing and can do anything when they are supported by staff focused on getting the best out of them regardless how hard that is at times."
