'Parking cheaper than drivers think' in Malmesbury
12:00pm Wednesday 25th July 2012 in North Wilts news By Laura Shack
PARKING in Malmesbury may be cheaper than you think.
That was the message at this month’s Malmesbury Area Board meeting when visitors were asked to gauge how pricey it was to park in the town.
Individuals and businesses have been encouraged to take advantage of reduced annual permits, which equate to 72 pence per day at Station Yark car park, or £260 per year.
And for businesses, a virtual ticket can also be bought which allows two vehicles to be registered on one permit for the benefit of employees.
During a digital vote presentation, it was highlighted that parking in Malmesbury costs less than other equivalent car parks in the county at 40 pence per hour.
In comparison, Marlborough was said to cost 55p or 80p on the High Street for one hour. However, towns such as Cricklade, which offer unlimited free parking, were not mentioned at the meeting.
Wiltshire councillor for Malmesbury Simon Killane said: "Because of the value of these permits it’s worth doing. Go out and tell everybody to get them."
