Royal Mail reveals closing date for Malmesbury sorting office

MALMESBURY sorting office is to close for the last time next month.

As reported in the Standard last year the Royal Mail is relocating the operation to a larger base at Royal Wootton Bassett on June 18.

A spokeswoman said no redundancies were planned, but delivery routes were being changed to make them more efficient.

Collection and delivery sector manager Stephen Bell said: “We are proud of the high regard in which our postmen and women are held in Malmesbury.

“These changes to our delivery routes mean that members of our local and experienced team will still be delivering to our customers in Malmesbury.”

The new routes come into force this week and posties are being issued with new equipment to deal with heavier mailbags. The times customers receive their mail will depend on where they live on the route.

Those who miss parcels and signed-for deliveries can arrange free re-delivery. They can also collect them from the Post Office in the Co-op, Malmesbury High Street or the Post Office Stores in Sherston.

People with PO boxes or those who need to pay a surcharge will have to go to the new sorting office on the Templars Way industrial estate in Wootton Bassett.
