A MALMESBURY School pupil has composed a song in memory of a close friend who passed away.

Emily Jones, 15, has created the song with lyrics to celebrate the friendship and loss of 14-year-old Hannah Cubin, who passed away in December of 2016 from a rare heart condition.

The song entitled Sky Tonight, is due for release tomorrow, Friday, with all profits going from the downloads to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance in Hannah’s name and memory.

Two members of the air ambulance attended by road on the night of Hannah’s passing and in the days following, her mum and dad, Dawn and Andy Cubin set up a fundraiser for the charity.

Emily explained why she decided to create the song.

“I struggled a lot with Hannah’s passing and I’ve always been into music,” said Emily.

“I was able to express how I felt through music, just thinking of lyrics and Hannah and it just happened. My mum took a video of me singing it and posted it on Facebook and people asked to make the post public so they could share it.”

Supermarine Music, and other members of the community, notably Rupert Barker, the photographer, and others have collaborated with Emily to record the song and produce an accompanying video.

They got in contact after they saw the video get shared on Facebook.

Rupert explained how he got involved.

"I first saw Emily’s Mum’s video on my Facebook feed and when it was suggested she should record it as a charity single I immediately thought what a great idea," Rupert said.

"As a photographer the best way I could help would be to shoot some promotional stills for her.

"I’ve recently started moving into making short films as well, so suggested I could record a video too.

"Half was done in Dave Sturdy’s studio as Emily recorded the single and half was shot in the fields above Daniels Well with Malmesbury as a backdrop.

Jon Stamp of Supermarine Music added: I thought it was a great song and a great cause and I was keen to be involved.

"This is exactly what the record label was set up to do, support talent from the community.

"We are all parents and the story touched us, the bond they had was really powerful.

A recording studio in Malmesbury was also provided for Emily.

Andy was also asked to play the guitar parts on the track by the production team at Supermarine music and Emily.

Emily added: “I never thought a song in my bedroom would go that big.

“I’m really happy with it, I never thought it would happen. I’m glad the money is going to Hannah’s charity, that is the main reason for it. My target is to hit £500, anything more is amazing.”
