MASSIVE plans to redevelop Sherston’s Recreation Ground to benefit the youth in the village has been released.

Sherston Parish Council has resolved to invest up to £150,000 into the project, that will see a massive overhaul of old equipment and a new multi use games arena.

Members of the parish council and the community have put the plans together over the past 12 months to redevelop the playground in the rec.

Subject to permission to undergo the changes, the council has finalised its plan after obtaining advice from several companies and has now made it public for the village.

The redevelopment of the recreation ground is only possible after the estate of Mrs North gave a huge amount of money to the village to go towards the youth.

Sherston Parish Council will invest up to £150,000 of the fund given by Mrs North into the project to benefit the youth in the village and the rest of the community.

A new multi use games arena will be installed should the plans receive permission towards the opposite side of the rec.

Football, netball and basketball will be marked out in the arena.

Also included in the plans, the timber trail, net climber, basket swing and zip wire are set to stay, as they are newer equipment and don’t need repairing.

Existing tower units, swings, seesaw and springer will all be removed to be replaced with brand new equipment.

More seating will be added for parents and carers to use while children play in the rec.

The parish council announced the plans in The Sherston Cliffhanger, their free monthly newsletter.

In the newsletter they said: “The Recreation Ground is a wonderful open green space that we are lucky to have.

“Although this proposal will include a tarmac surface in the Arena, it is important to say this area represents less than four per cent of the total Recreation Ground area.

“This area will create a more usable space on the Recreation Ground for ball games. The plans are truly amazing, and we are excited to present them to the village.”
