AN ANNUAL car wash has raised money for Malmesbury Christian Aid.

24 Cadets from 992 Squadron Air Training Corps washed cars for five hours on Saturday May 12, raising £350.

They washed around 30 cars, vans and campers at a pop-up car wash at the ATC Drill Hall, Tetbury Hill in Malmesbury.

Malmesbury Christian Aid is a National Church-led campaign raising money for overseas aid.

This week is Christian Aid week, highlighting the plight of the more than 40 million people around the world who are displaced within their own countries

They will be holding more events over the weekend, including an Market Cross plant and cake stall from 8.30am and a street collection between 9am and 1pm on Saturday.

Andy Dawson, organiser of the pop-up car wash, said: “The cadets worked really hard and were very pleased to have raised our second highest total ever from over 5 years of car washes in Malmesbury for Christian Aid Week.

"Many people generously donated up to £20, including one person who pulled over, apologised that his car was clean and gave us £10!

"A big thank you to all who took part, both the washers and the motorists, to make a difference for the poor and displaced of the world.”

Katrine Musgrave, Christian Aid regional coordinator for Wiltshire, said: “Christian Aid Week is a celebration of hope over despair, every donation can make a real difference to vulnerable families struggling to stay safe, stay well, to have their voice heard and provide for their children.

"Christian Aid is asking its supporters to ask their MPs to stand up for the millions of people worldwide who’ve been forced to flee their homes."
