Motorists will face more disruption on one of Swindon’s main roads, following the announcement of repairs to begin later this month.

The A3102 Wootton Bassett Road will see a footpath and its adjacent lane closed from 29 January, as works are carried out to reconstruct and resurface the footway.

The works are expected to be completed within eight weeks, and will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

It comes just weeks after drivers faced significant delays on the same route following a burst water main. The incident by the West End bowls club on 2 January left lanes in both directions closed, and nearby houses without a water supply.

The disruption continued over following days, with lanes closed as repairs were carried out.

A number of measures will be taken to attempt to reduce the impact of the coming works, which will stretch between Westcott Place and The Runner public house. The repairs will be broken down into small chunks of no more than 70m in length each, and the flow of traffic will be monitored and managed by manually controlled traffic lights. Diversions to accommodate pedestrians affected by the closure of the footpath will also be put in place, and provision will be made to give emergency services vehicles priority as required.
