A CLASS of students at Malmesbury School who failed the coursework element of their subject, and have now started college, have been invited back to class to redo certain elements of the module.

Following a discussion with exam board VTCT, head teacher Tim Gilson negotiated an extension window for resubmission of coursework on the level 2 hairdressing and beauty therapy course.

Students, who should have started college this week, have been invited back to school to make amendments to their original work to meet the assessment criteria that VTCT said was originally “not identified by the school’s internal moderation process”.

This was a claim that Mr Gilson “refuted” last week.

Malmesbury School have stressed that no students will miss any time at college and will ensure that affected students can complete the coursework around their college hours.

Hay Blake, whose daughter Molli missed out on her preferred course at Swindon College, said: “I’m hopeful they’ve given us the opportunity for Molli to pass the qualification that she should already have.

“I’m grateful to the school but concerned Molli still may have missed out on the course she was accepted and has to settle for a lesser course which isn’t exactly what she wants to do”.

Extra sessions are taking place at Malmesbury School this week and next to ensure that students have the opportunity to resubmit the piece of work with new wording that fits the exam board criteria.
