A YOUNG disabilities rights campaigner who was honoured with an award by Princes William and Harry earlier this year has released a YouTube video which he hopes will help break down barriers for other non-verbal children.

Jonathan Bryan, who lives in Stanton St Quintin, was one of twenty recipients of the inaugural Diana Legacy Award in a reception at St James’s Palace in May for his work in spearheading the Teach Us Too campaign.

The 11-year-old has called for all children to be taught to read and write regardless of their disability after feeling cast aside by the special needs education system himself.

In the video, Jonathan describes how learning to read and write has transformed his life and his hopes for other children with profound and multiple learning difficulties to be taught too.

The video will be broadcast to thousands of people at Parallel London, a fully accessible fun run and free family festival which is being held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this Sunday.

Jonathan said: “I was honoured to receive the Legacy Award in memory of Princess Diana.

“She was inspirational in breaking down barriers for people on the margins of society and her impact is still felt today.”
