MINETY Rugby Club is encouraging more young people to get fit and healthy by joining one of their youth teams.

The club has teams in many different age groups, from five years old all the way up to under-16s.

No experience is necessary to join any of the age groups and the younger teams start off non-contact with contact introduced gradually through the age groups.

Peter McAllister, secretary of Minety RFC, said: “Minety RFC prides itself on being a friendly family orientated club.

“It attracts players from the surrounding villages and far afield across North Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

“Set in the middle of a small village we have a close knit personal feel which is often lacking from larger organisations.”

Peter also highlighted the many benefits of playing sport aside from the exercise.

“Rugby is the ultimate team sport, it is highly dependent on having a true team focus.

“Everyone is dependent on everyone else with the team consisting of individuals from the largest to the smallest, boys and girls, tall and short.

“Mixing with children that you would not normally come into contact with helps to develop confidence and communication skills.

“Playing the games helps to improve coordination, agility and ball skills.

“These attributes can all be developed to be used in a wide variety of other ways in normal day to day activities.

“Running around, having fun with other children of your own age who share your interests is always going to be a good thing.

“In an age where it is easy to become isolated and disconnected, playing sport as part of a team and being able to get out and engage with other people for a few hours a week is invaluable.”
