CYCLISTS from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue will participate in an epic county-wide 24 hour charity cycling challenge that will pass through Malmesbury and Cricklade this weekend.

More than 30 riders will set off from Devizes fire station at noon on Friday with the aim of visiting all 24 fire stations in Wiltshire and Swindon in just one day.

The cyclists, which includes a number of fire service personnel, have already raised more than £1,000 for the Epilepsy Society.

The charity was chosen by Mike Cleaver, a firefighter who has organised the event, after his daughter was diagnosed with the epilepsy.

He said: “Although the distance isn’t necessarily an issue for the really keen cyclists, the duration and the night riding is the real challenge.

"I’m grateful to everyone who has supported us so far, either by offering help or sponsoring us – hopefully we will get a lot more money in by the time we finish.”

The route take in Devizes, Melksham, Corsham, Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, Salisbury, Pewsey, Marlborough, Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett, Cricklade, Malmesbury, Chippenham and Calne before the riders cycle back to Devizes by noon on Saturday, August 12.
