FOUR girl guides from Malmesbury joined 40,000 other guides and scouts from around the world at the Danish Jamboree last week.

Katharine, Sarah, Alice and Isobel from Malmesbury Girlguiding spent 10 days in the scenic town of Sønderborg in southern Denmark, participating in all sorts of outdoor activities.

One of the highlights of the event was the day spent making snysk, a traditional Danish dish that the girls had to source the ingredients for before cooking.

The girls were selected to attend the summer camp by proving their scouting skills of camping, teamwork and the ability to cope with unexpected challenge.

Before travelling out to Denmark, the girls had to raise £900 to support the cost of their trip.

They did this by babysitting, doing odd jobs and working with fellow guides Jessica and Anna, who were raising money to participate in the national scout and guide symphony orchestra, to put on cake sales and nostalgia events at Fairway residential home.

They also raised money by helping to put up tents at WOMAD.

Gill Shaw, who helps run Malmesbury Girl Guiding said: “It is quite unusual to have so many girls selected to go on events from a single division and it was great that they could club together to do fundraising events”.
