THE debate over the Ridgeway Farm development in Crudwell has once again raised the issue of the importance for communities to have their own Neighbourhood Plan.
The document is vital in giving residents a say on how they want developments to go ahead in their own towns and villages; it offers them a shield against undesirable planning applications and the opportunity to plot the future of their community.
Just last month, town councillors in Malmesbury celebrated victory over a potential development in Filands that was not part of their Neighbourhood Plan but councillors and residents in Crudwell are far more exposed to developments that could overstress infrastructure.
However there is a real need for more homes to be built. Thousands of people are struggling to get on the property ladder and constructing more homes is the only answer.
It is important that residents engage in the process so houses are built in the right places.
