SEVERAL thousand pounds worth of generous donations to Malmesbury League of Friends has enabled the group to fund new equipment for various local health care centres.

The donations, which totalled £18,000, went towards paying for a variety of specialist equipment at Malmesbury Primary Care Centre (MPCC), Athelstan House care home, Tolsey surgery in Sherston and a local resident who needed childcare support.

MPCC used the money to purchase two electrocardiography (ECG) machines, three dermoscopes and to fund Artlift, a programme of art classes for patients with serious mental health issues.

David Hide, Malmesbury League of Friends chairman, said: “These latest requests are typical of those we receive for support.

“Although some of them involve quite modes sums, each one will nevertheless make a major difference to the lives of those who benefit.

“We are always happy to consider request for those living in the Malmesbury area who have a special need.”

The latest round of financial support from the League of Friends follows a recent donation of £25,000 to Julia’s House.

Although based in Devizes, Julia’s House is the only hospice that cares for terminally ill children in Malmesbury and North Wiltshire.
