AN ANNUAL sponsored cycle by children from a Cricklade school has raised almost £1,000 for children’s charity the NSPCC.

Youngsters from Meadowpark Nursery took to their wheels and raised £964 which went down as a record amount for the event.

The pupils took it in turn to ride laps around the playground while parents and teachers watched.

Sponsored per lap, the children took regular pit stops to raise as much as possible for the charity.

Head teacher Rajvinder Kular said: “We chose to support the NSPCC as we want our children to recognise that there are children who are less fortunate.

“Through supporting the NSPCC, the children can feel like they are helping other children.

“We’ve raised a brilliant amount. It’s an annual event which has been running for more than 10 years and this isthe most we’ve ever raised.”

Caroline Morgan, NSPCC community fundraising manager, said: “I’d like to thank the pupils, staff and parents at the nursery for putting on this event and raising a record-breaking amount for the NSPCC.

“All the children did incredibly well to keep going on theirbikes and scooters.

“The money raised will go towards the NSPCC’s vital services like Childline, the Speak Out Stay Safe programme, and the services run from our Swindon service centre.”
