A DRINK driver from Malmesbury who smashed into a bus stop in May has been disqualified from driving for three years.

Jonathan Dove, of Oaksey Park, crashed his Audi A3 into the bus stop on Marlowe Road in Royal Wotton Bassett, completely destroying it, in the early hours of May 28.

When police arrived at the scene he was found to have an alcohol breath level of 85 microgrammes, more than twice the legal limit of 35, after binge drinking session that lasted for more than 10 hours.

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty at Swindon Magistrates Court, who heard that Dove had returned to his car to pick up some cigarettes.

He decided to drive it and after going just 100 yards he hit the bus stop as he was using his mobile phone.

Dove, who defended himself, said: “There is no excuse for my behaviour.

“It was me who rang the police and I was fully co-operative with them at all times.

“The reason I went back was for the keys to my dad’s house just around the corner, the next thing I knew the airbag had gone off.

Dove was stripped of his driving license for three years and ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service as well as paying costs of £190.
