THE tweets sent by UKIP’s former general election candidate for North Wiltshire are absolutely abhorrent.

Paddy Singh’s comments are filled with hatred of the most insidious nature and have absolutely no place in society.

From casually using a racially insensitive term for Japanese people to outright questioning if the Holocaust was a correct course of action, it’s impossible to understand that anybody, let alone a person seeking to become a Member of Parliament, could hold such views.

It’s difficult to comprehend how he was selected to stand as an MP in the first place.

Why were his views not picked up by UKIP earlier?

As the deadline for nominations has passed, Mr Singh’s name will still appear on the ballot paper on June 8 because the party is unable to put forward a different candidate.

But UKIP is absolutely right to distance itself from Mr Singh, to remove its support for his candidacy and to launch a full investigation.
