CRICKLADE Bloomers are celebrating after receiving a grant of £5,000 towards the renovation of their new premises.

The group are looking to raise more than £18,000 towards the reconstruction of a boundary wall at their site which is located behind Tesco on the High Street.

The renovation is a constraint of the planning approval that was granted on the land in January.

The grant was awarded by Cricklade and Royal Wotton Bassett Area Board at a meeting on Thursday evening.

John Nevill, vice-chair of Cricklade Bloomers, said: “Currently the wall is in a serious state of collapse, the majority is missing and it is dangerous.

“To reinstate it the wall it has got to be completely demolished and started from scratch.

“It will provide a significant improvement to the security of the site because this area has been subject to vandalism in the past few weeks.

Councillors held reservations over the grant because of the short term lease, which is just 10 years, on the land which is being leased from Tesco, however the motion was passed unanimously.

Allison Bucknell, chair of the Area Board said: “I’m just a bit nervous about the 10 year lease, it would be nice if it was longer but I am happy to support this because I acknowledge that the Bloomers do a fantastic amount of work in Cricklade.”
