WILTSHIRE Council has confirmed a new look cabinet following the local elections that took place earlier this month, with important roles for several Conservative councillors in North Wiltshire.

At the first new meeting of the council, which took place at County Hall in Trowbridge yesterday, it was decided that Baroness Scott of Bybrook will continue in her role as leader of the council for the next four years.

Sherston's councillor John Thomson, Toby Sturgis, who represents Brinkworth, and Minety councillor Chuck Berry all have key roles in the cabinet.

Cllr Thomson is now the deputy leader of Wiltshire council and is also responsible for communications, communities, leisure and libraries.

Cllr Sturgis will head up the planning and property department and Cllr Chuck Berry, who is new to the cabinet, will be responsible for economic development and housing.

Baroness Scott, said: “I am absolutely delighted and extremely proud to be re-elected as the council’s leader.

"It is a privilege to lead the council and I’m looking forward to working with my cabinet members to build on the great work that the council has delivered over the last four years.

“My first priority is to set out what we will be delivering over the next four years and how we will continue to focus on our vision and priorities.

"Given the challenges we continue to face, both our budget constraints and rising demand for services, we will need to grasp every opportunity to do things differently and continue to encourage our local communities to become even stronger.

“I was pleased to announce my new cabinet, which has seen continuity of some members and expertise, combined with new members and new skills. Working with the council, partners, key stakeholders and local communities, we will strive to provide the very best services for all Wiltshire residents.

"Everyone in the council chamber was elected to represent their local constituents and I am sure that all councillors want to make Wiltshire a better place to live, work and visit.”
