A MAKER of marvellous marmalade from Oaksey is toasting its success after receiving a prestigious food award at the 12th world marmalade awards.

Autumn Cottage Kitchen scooped a silver award at the event held in Dalemain in Cumbria last month for its ‘hot toddy lemon and honey marmalade with a touch of whisky’ that impressed judges with its appearance, colour, consistency, aroma and flavour.

Autumn Cottage Kitchen owner Elizabeth Adey was delighted to win the award after beating competition from countries across the globe, including Australia, Columbia, Lebanon and Japan.

She said: “This is a golden award for us in more ways than one. I am so pleased to have won this award against such strong competition from all over the world.

“I’ve got my preserve pans at the ready to make lots more jars so please come and try it at Oaksey Tearooms which are open on Friday morning and afternoon and Saturday mornings or Barnsley Pub, The Rectory Hotel, Crudwell or Malmesbury Garden Centre. Alternatively, order via email for home delivery.”

The artisan judges for the 2017 festival were a prestigious panel of food industry experts, including Sam Rosen-Nash from Fortnum & Mason and Dan Lepard, food writer and baking guru.

The guest of honour at the festival was the Japanese Ambassador, who was delighted to attend and taste the many Japanese entries ahead of plans for a Dalemain sister festival of marmalade in Japan.

The awards are sponsored by Mackays of Dundee, Tate & Lyle and Fortnum & Mason, and to date have raised more than £200,000 for charity.
