SONG and dance is being used to help prevent residents in Wiltshire falling victim to scams.
Wiltshire Council’s trading standards team regularly speak a vast number of residents who are conned out of money from scam artists.
To help raise awareness for the problem, the council have asked a theatre group to perform its ‘scambuster musical’, Too Good to Be True in the county.
The musical tells the story of three people who become the victim of a variety of scams.
It is written with communities in mind to raise awareness of how easy it can be to be conned.
The messages in the storyline promise to prompt discussion, and it has supposedly already proven to be effective in other areas of the country.
Jerry Wickham, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for public protection, said: “In a fun and innovative way, this musical will help people recognise the signs of a scam, whether it comes via the doorstep, telephone or email.
“These days scams can be very sophisticated but our message is simple, if it’s too good to be true then it probably is. We’ve seen at first hand the devastation that can be caused to the victims of scams and we don’t anyone else to go through that.”
The performances will take place on March 20 at Springfield Campus at 10am and later that day at Melksham Assembly Rooms from 2.30pm.
