MONTHS of speculation over what would happen to the former Ministry of Defence (MoD) land at Hullavington were put to an end this week.

And the new owners, Dyson, have some pretty spectacular plans for it.

The site will become the firm’s second technology centre in the country – within a stone’s throw of the first in Malmesbury.

It is estimated that 3,500 jobs will come to the area over the next few years as a result, which is a substantial influx.

Residents in the surrounding towns and villages reacted positively on the whole, and why not?

This could, as North Wiltshire MP James Gray said, make the region the UK’s ‘Silicon Valley’, and will inevitably bring investment in from elsewhere.

What the new centre will be developing is yet to be seen, but the smart money is electric cars it seems.

Residents in nearby Hullavington will surely raise an eyebrow or two at the news however, as a project of this size will mean surely mean months of heavy goods vehicles trudging through the rural streets.

But now is not the time to speculate on the possible drawbacks of what is a historic opportunity for north Wiltshire.
