A RAINBOW flag was raised in Wiltshire’s County Hall to mark the start of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) History Month.

Wiltshire Council raised the flag, synonymous with the LBGT community, on Wednesday, February 1, in the County Hall atrium.

Allison Bucknell, portfolio holder for staffing equality, took part in the show of solidarity with council representatives and members of the LGBT Forum.

Cllr Bucknell said: “Raising the rainbow flag at County Hall is a clear demonstration that Wiltshire Council is an inclusive place for all.

“We hope people will be able to come and see the display and find out more.”

David Payne, chair of the LGBT Forum in Wiltshire said he was “delighted” to celebrate LGBT history month.

He continued: “It is important as it acknowledges the brave men and women who got us to where we are today and gives us a chance to see what still needs to be done.

“With the support of Wiltshire Council and its great diversity ethos we can help achieve this.”

The council have put together a display on LGBT history inside the atrium, which will be in place until February 10.

The display will then be available to view at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham from February 20-28.
