A MAN is lucky to be alive this morning, after strong winds brought a tree crashing down onto his van in Minety.

The tree subsequently blocked the road that runs between Minety and Upper Minety, however nobody was injured.

The council have got to work chopping up the tree that currently lies across the B4696, however, due to its size, a tree surgeon has had to attend to ensure it is removed safely.

The road remains closed until further notice.

The report of the downed tree was made to police at 6.20am after a car came off the road into a ditch next to the tree.

Police have said “there will be trees down” across the county due to the strong winds last night.
