NEWS of an impending funding crisis at Malmesbury School reached the very top of government this week.
The school’s headteacher sent out a letter to parents saying the school would have to cut costs in the face of a lack of funding in coming years, so north Wiltshire’s MP got involved.
James Gray raised the issue directly with the Secretary of State for Education in a meeting on Tuesday.
Wiltshire remains one of the most underfunded counties for education and many parents will be hoping he asked why.
It is always sad to see cuts coming down on public services, particularly on education.
If the school has to cut certain subjects, who knows what opportunities may be lost for youngsters.
Potential scientists of the future might never realise their potential, or artists never pick up a brush.
So here is hoping the school sees the funding increase it needs in the face of an ever increasing demand from government to make savings.
