ADVENTUROUS residents are being given the chance to trek along one of the most famous landmarks in the world for a good cause this year.

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance (WAA) are holding another charity trek, this time along the Great Wall of China.

Those taking part in the ten-day trek will be raising money to keep the air ambulance in the air, which costs around £3.25m a year, £8,904 per day.

Rebecca de la Bedoyere, senior fundraising manager at WAA, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to offer this once-in-a-lifetime experience, which is by far the most exotic overseas challenge we’ve been involved with.

“The Great Wall is on many people’s bucket lists and what better way to experience it than on a guided tour with a small group of like-minded people, whilst raising funds to help us save lives across Wiltshire?

“During the ten day adventure, participants will be able to enjoy some of the highlights this iconic structure has to offer, with breath-taking views of mountains, villages and farms, as well as having opportunities to explore Beijing and The Forbidden City.

“We’ll be heading off the beaten trail and away from the tourist hotspots to experience a real taste of China.”

Malmesbury resident Nicola Earle, who took part in WAA’s Sahara trek, offered encouragement to anyone considering taking part in the trek.

She said: “Signing up to do a Wiltshire Air Ambulance trek is a great way to have an adventure in a part of the world you might not ordinarily have a chance of visiting and raise money for a really worthwhile cause.

“Nobody knows when they might require the services of Wiltshire Air Ambulance. The organisational aspects of the trek are taken care of which means all you have to do is get fit, raise money and then walk.”

The 60km trek, which is led by an experienced guide, takes place from September 21-30 this year.

An information evening will be held by WAA on Thursday, January 19, at 6.30pm at its Operations Centre, Devizes.
