AFTER a torrential downpour on Sunday night, Malmesbury was left worrying close to flooding this week.
The council invested tens of thousands of pounds last year to de-silt the Avon in the town, but 24 hours of rain seemed to push these new flood defences to their limit.
Malmesbury suffered greatly as a result of floods in recent years and residents are rightly concerned that the problem remains.
A flood expert spoke out this week, stating that where Malmesbury is situated means it will always be likely to flood.
People will not take comfort in this as they begin to fear the onset of winter.
Christmas was ruined for many in the town during the floods a number of years ago, let’s hope the town remains dry this year.
