POLICE have launched a new strategy in Wiltshire which aims to help officers and staff to protect the most vulnerable people in the county.

The force’s vulnerability strategy lays out some of the key principles for officers to follow when dealing with vulnerable people who may at different times be victims, witnesses or offenders.

The Wiltshire Police strategy looks at 19 different strands of vulnerability, from child sexual exploitation and domestic abuse, to human trafficking and modern slavery.

Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson said: “I became a member of the old Wiltshire Police Authority about ten years ago, and I can’t recall a single discussion about victims of crime or vulnerable groups and individuals.”

“I applaud the force for turning the spotlight on vulnerability in this campaign and wish it every success in encouraging those who feel vulnerable to seek help, and those who think people in their community may be at risk to share their concerns.”
