AFTER raising more than £5,000 at this year’s event, the team behind Malmesbury’s firework and bonfire night are appealing for residents to help them spread the wealth.

A record crowd of some 2,000 were in attendance at this year’s event organised by the Malmesbury Bonfire Committee, who took over control of the evening last year.

The group are looking to use the money raised to support local causes and they’re asking residents and organisations to come forward with suggestions.

Keith Maslin of the Malmesbury Bonfire Committee, said they want to have a direct impact of the local community.

“We have always preferred for people to ask for something specific, so we know exactly what the money is going towards,” he said.

“Last year the Crudwell Scouts needed new compasses for example.

“We have already had requests from The Mayoral Appeal, HEALS, Crudwell Scouts and Malmesbury Cricket Club.”

The committee hope to have distributed all of the money raised by Christmas, so are urging people to submit their requests as soon as possible.
