A MURAL in memory of a much-loved landlady from Little Somerford was unveiled last Friday.

Emma Burton died at the age of 34 last July after a car she was in collided with a lorry in Box.

The artwork dedicated to her was put on display for the first at her old pub, The Somerford Arms, and stories were shared about the popular figure.

Alana Luke, assistant manager at the pub, says the team have been fundraising for the past two months for the artwork.

“All staff have donated their tips and regulars have been donating into a jar,” she said.

“We managed to raise more than £800.”

The mural includes Emma’s two pets, her dog called Nutmeg and her parrot Noodles, either side of a star with the quote “The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long, and you have burned so very brightly”.

Alana says the quote, which was featured at Emma’s funeral, “sums her up”.

Speaking about the mural she continued: “I think Emma would absolutely love it.”

The mural was created by Malmesbury-based street artist Luke Hollingworth, known as Syd.

He said: “I never met Emma but I’d heard lots of stories about her.

“Where I painted the mural there were members of the public going by, everyone seemed to know her.

“The impression I got was she was a friendly, nice person and it was very sad that she left so early.”

The mural features a burst of colour from the star that places the centrepiece of the work.

Luke said he wanted the colour to represent “a celebration of life rather than mourning”.

The mural will remain displayed in the pub for people to enjoy when they visit.
