A SINGER from Malmesbury is ‘braving the shave’ at a charity gig later this month.

Ellie Ponting, 34, will be facing the clippers in front of a packed crowd in order to raise money for the cancer support charity Macmillan.

The lead singer of Ells and the Southern Wild is hosting a charity gig at The Vaults in Cirencester on Friday, October 28, and will be interrupting her set to get her head shaved.

Ellie said: “My mum was diagnosed with cancer a couple of years ago and has been through a lot. Macmillan have helped in the past.

“Cancer is an illness that affects many people, and it's such a tough thing to go through, so I feel that Macmillan is an important cause.

“When you’re facing something as big as cancer, it’s good to know there is somewhere you can turn to for support.

“It would mean a lot to me if local people can get behind this event.”

As part of the shave Ellie will donate her hair to the Princess Trust, a charity that creates real hair wigs for children going through cancer treatment.

The gig is free and starts at 8.30pm at The Vaults.
