RESIDENTS in Wiltshire are being asked to help raise awareness for the county’s 47,000 unpaid carers – by eating breakfast.

Carer Support Wiltshire are urging residents to take part in their annual fundraising event Britain’s Best Breakfast.

The events sees thousands of people across the country host fundraising breakfasts for their friends, family and neighbours.

Money raised will go towards funding Carer Support Wiltshire’s work providing services to unpaid carers, ranging from emotional support to hands-on practical help and access to education, training and employment.

There are seven million unpaid carers in the UK, excluding the estimated 700,000 child carers in the UK, who are caring for a friend or family member that might be mentally or physically unwell or struggling with an addiction.

Currently ten per cent of the UK adult population are unpaid carers and, alarmingly, three in five people will be carers at some point in our lives.

Catharine Hurford from Carer Support Wiltshire said: “We’re asking the people of Wiltshire to help us celebrate the hard work that our unpaid carers undertake every single day by taking part in Britain’s Best Breakfast.

“For many carers, the morning is the most difficult time of the day and they often have to skip breakfast because they simply don’t have time for it.

“Hosting a breakfast is a great way to raise money and also raises awareness of unpaid carers missing out on what is the most important meal of the day.”

Britain’s Best Breakfast takes place between October 10-16.
