LOVERS of literature, philosophy and, of course, apples, will be in their element next month.

Sunday Hill Farm are playing host to a festival like no other, the first ever Apple Festival.

The event, which hopes to fuse a farmers market with a literary festival, will feature guest speakers, philosophers and live music, in the picturesque surroundings of the Brinkworth farm and its stunning orchard.

Author and philosopher Sir Roger Scruton and Telegraph food writer Rose Prince will among the speakers in the Authors Tent, while Andy Howard of The Heritage Food Company will be sharing his knowledge of apples with guests.

Producers from the area will be showcasing their food and drink, accompanied by live music featuring the Newton Country band.

Sophie Scruton, director of Horsells Farm Enterprises, said: “We are incredibly excited to host this new event at Sunday Hill Farm and delighted to be celebrating all the fantastic people and producers in Wiltshire.

“There will be something for everyone including locally produced cheese, wine and craft.

“I am looking forward to hearing our guest speakers in the Authors Tent, who will be getting to the core of the matter, and judging the best apple jelly.

“Here in Brinkworth there is enormous community spirit and our neighbours are all getting involved too.

“We hope this will be the first of many Apple Festivals at the Farm.”

The event will be raising money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, a cause close to Sir Roger’s heart.

He said: “I owe my life to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, since they rescued me earlier this year when I fell from my horse and broke my femur in four places.

“They were able to transport me to the hospital, for immediate surgery, in only a matter of minutes.

“They provide an impeccable service to our area."

The festival takes place on Saturday, October 22, and entrance is free, with doors opening at 10.30am.

To attend any of the talks at the Authors Tent, tickets, costing £35, must be bought from Eventbrite, by searching ‘Apple Festival – Authors Tent’ on eventbrite.co.uk
