A CALL for new volunteers has been made by the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Volunteers will be working alongside staff at local fire stations, helping to educate the community in fire safety and gather referrals for ‘safe and well’ visits to people’s homes.
They can also get involved in service events, such as youth initiatives, station open days and corporate activity.
The volunteer scheme has run for a number of years in Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole, and is now extending into Wiltshire and Swindon.
Neil Chamberlain, the volunteer co-ordinator for Wiltshire, said: “Volunteering is a great way to make a difference in your community.
“As well as supporting the fire and rescue service, you can get involved in local events and help people to access the advice and information they need to stay safe.”
Anyone aged 18 and above can apply to be a volunteer. They will need to be available for two to four hours per week and be involved for a minimum of six months.
