AN Oxfam shop is celebrating its 30th year on Malmesbury’s high street.

After moving into their location at 7 High Street in July 1986, the shop was bought by Oxfam in 1989.

Many have come and gone since then, but the charity retains a loyal team of 37 volunteers today, ranging in age from 14 to 92.

There is a shop scrap book that has been added to since the shop opened in 1986. The book was recently updated and is now on display in the shop for customers to enjoy.

Christine Holdway has been the shop manager for 10 years.

Speaking about her team of volunteers she said: “It is the hard work and loyalty of these wonderful people that make a success of the business.

“The recent refurbishment has given us all a boost and fresh enthusiasm to help raise money for Oxfam's work.”

A few of the current volunteers have helped at the shop almost since it opened.

Babs Farnfield is the longest serving volunteer. She said: “Oxfam has always been enjoyable, every week being different, meeting lots of new people, having a laugh and learning new skills.

“It's great being part of the Oxfam family and long may it continue.”

There are currently two volunteer vacancies at the shop, for Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, 1-4.30pm.
