A PIECE of art by a street artist from Malmesbury has found a home with the founder of Glastonbury.

Luke Hollingworth, 39, who works under the artist alias of Syd, exhibited his work at the world-renowned festival this ear and one of his works piqued the interest of Mr Glastonbury himself, Michael Eavis.

The artwork in question was a spray painting Luke made of the 80-year-old festival legend with a lightning strip, synonymous with David Bowie, across his face.

Mr Eavis had heard about the artwork which Luke had advertised across the festival site and when asked if he wanted to have it, leapt at the chance.

“It doesn’t get any better than that,” said Luke.

“I did a campaign about it over the few days before the gates opened to the public and word spread.

“One of the official festival photographers posted it on the Glastonbury Facebook which gave it a huge reach.”

Speaking about the inspiration for the artwork, Luke said: “Mr Eavis is a guy that’s still plugging away at 80, and the face of Glastonbury. It’s great to celebrate someone like that.

“With Bowie, I appreciate that he was always pushing boundaries. He also had a close association with the festival.”

Another surprise to Luke was finding one of his pieces of art from last previous year’s festival tattooed on a festival goer’s leg.

“I did some art of a cow with Kanye West glasses on last year,” explained Luke.

“This year some random guy showed me this tattoo he has done on his leg and it was perfectly to scale.

“He works in the livestock industry so it must have clicked with him.”

Luke has a busy summer of exhibiting his work at festival’s ahead and can next be found at WOMAD in Malmesbury later this summer.
