LOCAL produce was the flavour of the day at a fundraiser in Brinkworth recently.

Inspired by their rural location the Brinkworth Earl Danby’s School Association set about organising a West Country themed fundraiser for residents on June 10, raising more than £6,000 in the process.

They sourced food, drink and entertainment as close to home as possible – an idea that proved popular as the event sold out in just three weeks.

Hundreds turned out to enjoy the locally-sourced produce from Thomas of Malmesbury butchers, which was washed down by locally-brewed Mates cider and Weighbridge ales.

There was also generous support from local businesses providing funding, equipment and prizes. These included The Old Bell hotel in Malmesbury, Dyson and the Brinkworth Heritage Society.

The food and drink was accompanied by some West Country musical favourites including the agricultural hip-hop artist Corky, who entertained the crowds with his ‘feel-good’ acoustic music.

After the crowd were warmed up, the popular Wurzels took to the stage, topping the evening off with an energetic set, accompanied by an enthusiastic crowd supplying the backing vocals.

Of course a West Country fundraiser wouldn’t be complete without a welly-wanging competition, which brought out the revellers competitive sides.

Speaking after the event Ella Morgan, event manager, said: “We are really delighted that so many local people were able to enjoy this event raising money for our lovely school.

“It enables them to invest in items the usual budgets just do not stretch to that enhance our children’s learning.

This has been a true community event and are grateful for all the support we have received.”
