THE date is fast approaching when Wiltshire’s residents are asked to walk a mile in the shoes of a carer.

Carer Support Wiltshire is hoping to raise awareness and support for unpaid carers in the county during this year’s Carers Week, with the Walk a Mile in My Shoes sponsored event.

Participants can enjoy the walk in a group, with colleagues, friends, family or even their dogs.

Entertainment, stalls, activities and refreshments for all the family will be on offer on the day.

A spokesman for Carer Support Wiltshire said: “One in 10 of us is a carer and three in five of us will become one at some point in our lives.

“It can happen at any time and the consequences are huge.

“Many who find themselves looking after a family member or friend have to give up employment or university and face financial hardship and limited opportunities for breaks or holidays.

“Carer Support Wiltshire helps carers to access support, services, education and training, and breaks from their caring role.

“So put your best foot forward and join them for this year’s walk to show your support for the 47,000 carers in Wiltshire and help them raise lots of money to support even more.”

Registration is £10 for adults and £5 for under-12s. Once registered participants will receive an event T-shirt, sponsorship form, or help to set up an online sponsorship page.

The walk takes places on Sunday, June 12 at 12.30pm from John Coles Park
in Chippenham.
