TWO best friends from Minety Primary School are throwing themselves in at the deep end for charity.

Lily Ramirez-Hobbs and Rebekkah Mawyer, both nine-years-old, will be swimming one mile to raise money for Myeloma UK.

Both keen swimmers, they have been friends since pre-school and are excitedly looking forward to the challenge.

Lily’s mother Nikola Hobbs said: “Lily had the amazing idea to raise money for Myeloma UK in memory of her great uncle David.

“She joined the Malmesbury Marlins [swimming club] two months ago and won first bronze medal on weekend. She worked really hard to get into the club and now swims nearly every day of the week.

“Her friend Becca has been a member of swimming clubs for the past two years so they decided to take on the challenge together.

“I’ve been updating Lily on the progress of the fundraising and she gets excited to tell Rebekkah at school every day. They’re both very kind and thoughtful little girls.”

The girls will be swimming 63 lengths of a 25m pool to raise money for Myeloma UK, a charity that provides information and support to myeloma patients and their families.

Myeloma UK was chosen by Lily, whose great uncle died from the disease.

“Her dream is to become a palliative care doctor when she grows up,” said Nikola.

“When she gets an idea she goes with it.”

The swim is taking place on July 16 from 3pm-5pm at the Activity Zone in Malmesbury.
