NINE in ten pupils are going to the school of their choice this year in Wiltshire.

A total of 92 per cent of children obtained a place at their first choice school, up by 1.7 per cent on 2015 and above the national trend.

Parents who applied online found out whether their children had been lucky enough to obtain the places they wanted on April 18.

All applicants now have until 3 May to accept the offer they receive. The right to an independent appeal is open to anyone who has not received one of their preferred schools.

Laura Mayes, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This is a key day for parents of children about to take that first step into school life and I’m pleased so many Wiltshire pupils will be going to the school of their choice.”

Details of how to appeal are included in the decision letter posted to all applicants. Further information is also available on our website wiltshire.gov.uk/schooladmissions
