THE Lions of Cirencester are trying to bulk up their pride as they look to the future.

The group of volunteers are seeking new members to keep their community work alive.

Jess Turner, president of the Cirencester Lions, is the youngest president of a Lions group in the UK, and she is determined to carry on the good work they do.

“We are an amazing little group who are dedicated to helping others,” she said.

“I joined Lions because it does not just help one charity or one community, it helps millions.

“Cirencester Lions have just started up again and we are small, however I look at the other Lions clubs which have been around for years and years and think I want to be like them one day.”

Looking forward, the Cirencester group are hoping to expand their community work, with plans to start visiting care homes in the town and surrounding areas.

They are also looking at getting defibrillators placed around in the town, as well as expanding their programme collecting unused pairs of spectacles to send to developing countries.

To do these things however, the Lions need more paws on the ground, and Jess has issued a rallying cry to the community for new members to come forward.

“I want to be a Lions club that is remembered for what they did and a Lions club that can improve,” she said.

“We can do this with more volunteers and more help.

“We are an amazing but small team of people looking for local causes to help.

“We are always looking for more volunteers.

“The more people we have the more we can do.”
