AFTER being diagnosed with a highly contagious infection, a much-loved former Beaufort Hunt horse has passed away.
The 28-year-old gelding Josh died after battling with a case of strangles for the past couple of weeks.
Public footpaths remain closed around Manor Farm in Sherston, where Josh lived, until the infection is contained.
Josh’s field buddy also contracted the infection despite Josh being put into immediate isolation after diagnosis.
Lottie Bostock, who lives at Manor Farm, said: “With Josh's passing this morning it is a stark reminder of how serious a disease strangles is. We are all devastated.
“We are hugely grateful for [residents’] assistance and understanding thus far in our bid to contain the disease.
“We are working closely with the vets and tests are ongoing and we will keep you all updated.”
