STUNNING views of Malmesbury will adorn the walls of the Primary Care Centre as part of a campaign to boost the profile of a local charitable group.

The Malmesbury League of Friends (MLOF) have commissioned photographs from the well-known local photographer Robert Peel, to be placed around the care centre.

Robert has also created a picture book with a collection of his photos taken in the town that will be placed in waiting areas around the centre.

Dr John Pettit, a senior partner at the care centre and a trustee of the MLOF, said: “We saw this was a great opportunity for some publicity for the Friends that doesn’t always get the public face it needs.

“Everyone in the town knows Robert’s photography. It’s really helped to brighten up the corridors in the surgery for the last few years.

“We’re revamping them and putting some new ones up, so we took the opportunity to incorporate some extra ones into the new book.”

Robert Peel’s photography is known by many in the town, having been featured in a number national newspapers.

He was glad to be helping to bring some life to the corridors of the care centre and support the MLOF.

“It’s so easy to go to these places and just see art from anywhere,” he said.

“You see it in hospitals where there is obscure art on the walls.

“So this is a great initial to do something local like this.”

The MLOF support various local health causes in the region, and recently donated £25,000 to the Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal, that hopes to bring a new radiotherapy centre to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

Robin Clark has been chairman of the MLOF for more than 20 years, and has been a part of the group for more than 50.

He said: “Any exposure we’re grateful for, the more you put the name in front of people the more it will register.

“We support people through social services and other surgeries, individuals as well as groups, and we want to make people aware we can help.”

Speaking about Robert’s involvement in the project Mr Clark said: “He’s done masses for us, he’s extremely good as he always does it at cost.

“He’s been a great friend to the Friends. We’ve got nothing but good things to say about him and he’s a wonderful photographer.”
