POTHOLES, potholes, potholes.

There are few things in life that can reduce grown men to tears, but potholes is apparently one of them.

Local social media networks erupt when the subject of holes appearing in roads is brought up, and to some extent, the frustration is just.

They’re not just a risk to cars but pedestrians crossing roads as well.

A Malmesbury resident recently tripped in one on a zebra crossing while carrying her baby.

She did well to avoid injuring her child as she fell, but this is not an isolated incident.

So it with a sigh of relief that Wiltshire’s residents hear the news that the county is getting more than £800,000 in the form of a Government grant specifically to deal with potholes.

The Government estimates the money will go to fix more than 16,000 potholes in the county, however where the money will be spent is a question being asked by many.

Many residents see Malmesbury as the forgotten town by Wiltshire Council, as places like Chippenham and Salisbury are prioritised due to their size.

With nearly £1million to spend though, it would unthinkable that Malmesbury and surrounding areas don’t get a decent crack of the whip.

Residents will be hoping the council get to work fast however, as when spring really dawns, the damage that winter has had on the roads becomes even more apparent.
