A CAR collided with a number of runaway horses on a road in Brinkworth yesterday.

Members of the Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Neighbourhood Policing Team were called to the incident on the B4042 at 3pm.

On arriving at the scene police helped round the horses up into a nearby garden.   

The vehicle involved, a silver Nissan X Trail, sustained damage to the windscreen and recover was arranged.

No people or animals were seriously injured in the collision.

The police were praised by the person in charge of the horse who rang the police.

They said: “[I] just want to say the biggest thank you to the officers who attended the incident with the loose horses today on the Brinkworth road.

“My friend and I were the ones who were trying to catch the horses and your professionalism, understanding and kindness made us feel so much better to make the best of a bad situation.

“Can you please say a special thank you to those officers, they deserve a recognition for today.

“Top work from top officers, very much appreciated today thank you.”
